Experience

Hi, I'm Mark! I graduated Dean's list distinguished in 3 years from Johns Hopkins University's Molecular & Cellular Biology program. I also graduated from the Texas Academy of Math and Science national honor society distinguished. I realized my passion for math and the sciences at a young age when I competed in chess tournaments and Math Olympics. I enjoyed discussing problem-solving strategies with fellow students and the personal satisfaction in the iterative development and improvement of my own analytical skills. If there are skills I want to impart on those I tutor, they would be the persistence to master a concept and taking pride in one's work. I tutor and mentor not to help on one problem or concept, but to impart the knowledge and skill-set needed to handle future challenges and mental blocks. I accomplish this by emulating my early educators who inspired me to go above and beyond in my work. To put my own spin on an assignment. To differentiate myself. This manifests in my tutoring style as diagrams, number lines and utilizing different learning styles: inquiry-based, and visual for example. I have tutored for the past 4 years for Johns Hopkins and the Texas Academy of Math and Science. I tutored in a collaborative setting as well as those more tailored for 1 on 1 interaction. Unlocking people's understanding of a topic is one of the most satisfying feelings for me, and I'm sure many other tutors. GRE: Quantitative - 159 Verbal - 159 Writing - 5.0 SAT: 1920 (old scoring system) Examples of Courses taken: Calculus III, Linear Algebra, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics
